RUDE RUM

1 Track

Rude Rum is Brisbane’s answer to colossal British derived power-trios of yesteryear; making waves throughout the Australian scene with high energy showmanship and an addictive repertoire.  Hailing from the streets of Fortitude Valley, Rude Rum made fast impressions with a refreshing rock n roll persona. With an ability to energise any audience they’re placed before, the power-trio’s sound displays a signature gritty Australian street tone similar to “Bad//Dreems” with a “Lime Cordiale” addiction, alongside British overtones reminiscent of “Catfish and The Bottlemen” and “Royal Blood”; and a groove element fostered by “The Black Keys” and “Gary Clark Jnr”. What has emerged is a unique, refreshing taste of a Rock genre with Indie styling… producing new material that entices fans of various genre preferences into a new decade of musical direction. “And then Rude Rum came on and tore through the ambience. They could be heard from everywhere…The band brought dancers to the floor and tore through the ceiling.” – Music Hungry Blog Rude Rum began cutting their name in the scene from the onset of April 2019, after an explosive debut headline performance at the iconic Valley venue “Tomcat”, where founding member Jaeden Ogston officially introduced band members India Raine and Van-Louis Willis to their home ground Brisbane audience. This progressed to the release of their debut EP “Taste Test”… A more indie themed release that properly demonstrates the bands roots of addictive rhythms textured beneath a Rock n Roll attitude. “Their energy-laced music is designed to incite a party with its addictive attitude and just a hint of mischief… the perfect cocktail for a good time.” – Scenestr “Be ready to experience a rhythmically extraordinary album, dare to feel those lyrics in your veins, and all that joyful energy from the band” – Freak Stalker Magazine (on the Taste Test EP) The aftermath of “Taste Test” flowed into “Bloomfest”; Rude Rum’s first official festival appearance which saw them opening for Brisbane supergroup “Total Pace” whose members included Pairing this with airplay on Australian stations including 3RRR Melbourne, 4ZZZ Brisbane and 2RRR Sydney, Rude Rum had begun is foundational development in the Australian scene, and embarked on developing the next phase… “Curious Affection”. “We feel this [Curious Affection] is our best work yet… It’s funky, groovy, has that rock attitude and bound to put a cheeky grin on your face… It captures what we’re all about” – Rude Rum With no rest for the wicked in all it’s meaning, the power trio returned to the studio in July 2019 and developed a track that highlighted new sonic qualities for the bands style that had less Indie coating and a more grittier approach with a touch of surf motion in the rhythm characteristics. Recorded at Bedlam Records Brisbane by Brock Weston of “Bugs”, and mastered in London by Kevin Metcalf (Jack White, David Bowie, Queen), the flagship anthem titled “Curious Affection” was better produced, tighter, and more addictive than it’s predecessor. What came to follow was 3 weeks on the road touring Australia’s East Coast amongst the smoke and soot of the 2019 bushfires. The debut tour for the “Curious Affection” single covered 11 dates, where Rude Rum tore down Sydney’s “Frankie’s Pizza” on a Saturday night, energised an almost packed basement of “The Espy” St Kilda, and converted a small Pub in Sawtell NSW into a raving rock joint during a quiet Thursday night. The finale of the tour in the form of a Brisbane Homecoming show brought the power-trio back as a band with new experience and showmanship under their belts. Their newly refined performance style opened up opportunities including supporting Sydney hard rock legends “FANGZ” at their Brisbane show, and competing in the renown “Mojo Burning” battle of the bands grand final. Now having a tour under their belt with refreshed hunger for more, the power trio found themselves back at Bedlam Records for a new single. Polished on the East Coast Roads of Australia, “Got That Feelin” stood out alongside crowd favourites due to it’s catchy melodies, modern funk based rhythms fused with late 60’s psychedelia, and lyrical escapades that bring temptation to the table. Mastered once again in London, this time by Gwyn Mathias (Sex Pistols), Rude Rum’s 3rd single “Got That Feelin” brings a new groove to their repertoire, adding further sonic variety to their sets and discography. “Got that Feelin’ is the funky sister to it’s sibling “Curious Affection”. Both songs developed around a similar period in time, however Got that Feelin’ hero’s a much more funk inspired riff and underlying tonality… Especially some of the guitar tones where a thinner harmonic quality and sharper attack of the playing style pays homage to old school funk recordings where they often plugged straight into the console rather than an amp. People kept saying to us at our shows “that should be your next single!” or “when are you going to record that one?” so it was definitely a clear choice to release this tune, and plus combined with our own style, it ended up as a super tasty track which really adds dynamic to our catalogue” – Jaeden of Rude Rum As one of the freshest bands emerging from the Brisbane scene, “Rude Rum” give promise to an oasis of fresh, zestful Rock n Roll that contrasts current trends and releases in the scene. The power-trio is hungry and driven; and have proved show after show that they are an act not to be missed. “We are ready to give it all we’ve got” – Rude Rum
